About the instrument

The RIF Mental Rotation Test is a validated (publication in preparation), browser-based psychometric instrument designed to assess the mental rotation factor of spatial ability.

Developed collaboratively to support spatial ability research in primary and lower-secondary education, the tool provides a way to measure an individual’s capacity to mentally rotate 3D objects. To use the test, researchers should first give participants a unique id number, and once all participants have completed the test, send a list of those id’s to either Günter Maresch or Jeffrey Buckley requesting the data.

Researchers can direct participants to a brief practice version to familiarise them with the interface and question format before administering the full version.
